Water - Save it!
Water – it’s everywhere…Right?
Well not
exactly and not for everyone! Many parts
of the world (including the US) are experiencing drought conditions, so saving
water is important + It can save money!
Small leaks can add up to gallons of water lost daily and can cause
serious damage to your home!
Bathroom
Turn off
water while shaving or brushing your teeth.
Consider taking shorter showers or switching to a water saving
showerhead.
Toilet leaks
can easily go unnoticed – to check, remove the tank lid and drop a small amount
of food coloring into the tank. Wait
10-15 minutes and check the bowl for color.
If you do see color, it could be as simple as replacing the flapper or adjusting
the value. Be sure to flush too – you
don’t want to stain the bowl!
Plumbing can leak too so check under the sink, but tub/shower can leak inside the wall where it’s easily missed and the inlet for your toilet can leak inside the floor too!
Kitchen
Wait for a
full load to run the dishwasher & Scrape, don’t rinse before hand
washing or placing in the dishwasher. And
again…plumbing under the sink or the intake for your ice maker!
Keep a
pitcher of water in the fridge so you won’t need to run the water until it’s
cool.
Laundry
Just like
the dishwasher – run a full load and consider Energy Star rated washing
machines
Outside
Don’t water the lawn or plants unless needed and only water in the early morning or evening so the plants can absorb the water rather than the heat causing evaporation. Use a hose nozzle that shuts off when you’re not watering.
Add mulch to
reduce weeds as well as preserve moisture! Sweep instead of hosing off the walk
or driveway
Collect
rainwater in a Rain Barrel for watering plants – Bonus~ It keeps it out of
storm drains!
Finally,
consider installing a water detection system – there are a
variety of options and can save money on your homeowner premium! Just ask me (I might even have a discount
code!)
